Responsible for planning, development and implementation of all Project Rescue’s marketing strategies, marketing communications and public relations activities. This position will oversee the development and implementation of Project Rescue’s marketing plan including, but not limited to: website, social media, annual reports, and other communication mediums that seek to further the reach of Project Rescue. This position will direct the efforts of the marketing, communications and public relations staff/consultants and coordinate at the strategic and tactical levels with the other functions of the leadership team. The Director of Marketing and Communications reports directly to the Project Rescue leadership team.

Job Summary

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for creating, implementing, and measuring the success of: a comprehensive marketing, communications, and public relations program that will enhance the Organization’s image within the AG network and among donors and the general public.   

  • Facilitates internal and external communications; The ultimate goal is to create synergy between all communication mediums throughout Project Rescue and ensure they are safe for our ministries on the ground, topical, creative, and cohesive.

  • Ensure articulation of the Organization’s desired brand, assure consistent communication of brand management throughout the Organization, and communication of brand to all internal and external constituencies.

  • Responsible for maintaining and safeguarding the brand image of all Project Rescue initiatives (i.e., Rescue and Restore, Rescue Day, Speakers Bureau, etc.).

  • Oversee development of all Organization print and digital materials such as our Annual Report, brochures, letterhead, website, social media content, event support items, etc. 

  • Coordinate media interest in the Organization and ensure regular contact with target media and appropriate response to media requests. 

  • Ensure that the Organization regularly conducts relevant market research and coordinates and oversees this activity. Monitor trends.

  • Responsible for researching relevant software that will keep our organization up-to-date and competitive. 

  • Manage and supervise other marketing and communications staff members.

  • Steward our digital SEO and ad strategy.

Skills Required/Preferred 

Planning and budgeting 

  • Develop short- and long-term plans and budgets for the marketing/communications/ public relations program and its activities, monitor progress, assure adherence, and evaluate performance.  The budget is to be presented to the leadership team for annual approval.  

  • Recommend short- and long-term Organization goals and objectives bi-annually to the leadership team.

  • Develop, implement and monitor systems and procedures necessary for the smooth operation of the marketing/communications/public relations function.

  • Keep informed of marketing, communications, and public relations developments in the non-profit world.  

Organizational strategy

  • Help ensure that the Organization’s philosophy, mission, and vision are consistently communicated and practiced through all communication mediums.

  • Help formulate and administer policies to ensure the integrity of the communication of Project Rescue.

  • Act as an internal consultant to bring attention and solutions to communication priorities

Managing 

  • Delegate tasks to communications team staff, contracted employees, and interns.  

  • Recruit, train, appraise, supervise, support, develop, promote and guide personnel necessary to carry out necessary tasks for effective communication while staying within the approved budget.

  • Effectively enable volunteers and staff so they can take action on behalf of the Organization by:

    • Transmitting the Organization’s values, vision, and direction.

    • Engaging people in the meaning/ethos of Project Rescue. 

    • Utilize the skills, expertise, experience, and insights of those with intimate knowledge of Project Rescue.

Qualifications & EXPERIENCE

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.

  • 7–10+ years of progressive fundraising and development leadership experience.

  • Demonstrated success leading a comprehensive development program and achieving significant revenue growth.

  • Proven experience personally cultivating, soliciting, and closing major gifts.

  • Demonstrated experience with six-figure and preferably seven-figure gifts.

  • Experience leading and developing a fundraising team.

  • Strong executive presence and ability to advise senior organizational leaders.

  • Exceptional relationship-building, communication, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to build trust with pastors, church leaders, business executives, high-capacity individuals, foundations, and philanthropic partners.

  • Strong understanding of donor data, CRM systems, forecasting, and development analytics.

  • Ability to think strategically while remaining personally engaged in frontline fundraising.

  • Willingness to travel regularly for donor meetings, church relationships, events, and development opportunities.

Preferred

  • Experience in Christian ministry or faith-based nonprofit fundraising.

  • Experience developing church and pastor relationships.

  • Experience with principal gifts, transformational philanthropy, or capital campaigns.

  • Experience with corporate partnerships and foundations.

  • Experience with planned giving.

  • Experience with digital and direct-response fundraising.

  • Experience working with external fundraising consultants.

  • Experience leading development through a period of significant organizational growth.

Success will be measured by the organization’s ability to meet annual fundraising goals, achieve sustainable year-over-year growth, and diversify revenue. This includes expanding the major-gift pipeline, securing significant commitments, and building strong business, philanthropic, church, and ministry partnerships.

Success will also be reflected in improved donor acquisition, retention, recurring giving, upgrades, and reactivation, as well as stronger returns from fundraising channels and events. Internally, the role will strengthen team performance, CRM and donor-management practices, forecasting, and executive reporting.

Effective partnership with the CEO, Executive Director, Board, and senior leadership will be essential, along with strong alignment between Project Rescue Ministries and Project Rescue Foundation.
