When Gabriela was 13, her family sent her to live with a family friend in a village outside the city, trusting the promise that she would be cared for. Instead, Gabriela endured a year of hardship and mistreatment. She was forced to carry the full burden of household work, kept isolated in the home, and not allowed to leave. During that time, she experienced ongoing abuse and lived in fear.

Despite these circumstances, Gabriela found the courage to escape when an opportunity presented itself. She sought help, and her situation was reported to authorities. Charges have since been filed. Her strength in reaching safety speaks to the resilience within her, even after a long and painful season.

Since coming into our partners care, Gabriela has begun the difficult process of healing. There are days when the weight of what she has been through feels overwhelming, but step by step she is learning to trust again. She continuing to open up, allowing herself to be supported, and slowly finding a sense of safety and belonging.

Gabriela has also begun deepening her faith. She has a relationship with God, believes she is loved, enjoys attending church, and is preparing to begin discipleship classes. She has a desire to be baptized and hopes one day to serve in her local church.

As she continues on her path toward restoration, we are honored to walk alongside her, supporting her as she grows in strength, hope, and purpose.
