FUNDAMENTAL TRUTHS OF SEXUAL EXPLOITATION
Sex trafficking is not distant, rare, or someone else’s problem. It is a present and pervasive injustice affecting millions of people around the world, including within our own communities. An estimated 6.3 million people are trapped in sex trafficking globally, most of them women and girls.
Contrary to common belief, trafficking rarely begins with abduction. It often starts with trust. Traffickers intentionally target vulnerability, presenting themselves as friends, mentors, or romantic partners. Through a process of grooming, they build emotional connection, meet needs, and slowly gain control. What feels like care becomes manipulation, and over time, exploitation takes hold. Today, this process is often accelerated through social media, making access to vulnerable individuals easier than ever.
Sex trafficking continues because demand sustains it. As long as exploitation is normalized and consumed, it creates space for traffickers to profit. But trafficking also thrives in silence and lack of awareness, which means awareness itself becomes a powerful tool for prevention.
our mission
The Church is not called to ignore injustice, but to respond. Scripture does not position believers as passive observers of injustice. Micah 6:8 declares, “He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?” In Luke 4:18–19, Jesus proclaims, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” Addressing sex trafficking is not just a social issue, it is part of living out our faith. When the next generation is equipped with understanding and awareness, they become part of the solution—helping prevent exploitation and create a future marked by freedom.
The Future of Freedom is designed to equip high school and college students with practical ways to join the mission of ending sexual exploitation. Through awareness, biblical formation, and actionable pathways, students are equipped to become leaders who refuse to tolerate trafficking in their communities.
This initiative bridges rescue and prevention. Where Project Rescue rescues and restores survivors, The Future of Freedom educates and mobilizes students. It translates the mission of rescue into accessible next steps so young people are not passive observers of injustice but active participants in God’s redemptive work.
For pastors and ministry leaders, The Future of Freedom offers a clear discipleship framework that connects faith to action. It provides tools to help students understand trafficking, recognize cultural contributors to exploitation, and take measurable steps toward building a future marked by freedom.
The Future of Freedom exists because rescue alone is not enough. Rescue interrupts bondage. Restoration rebuilds lives. Mobilization prevents future exploitation and reshapes culture. By launching The Future of Freedom, Project Rescue is investing in a generation that will protect the vulnerable and help create a world where trafficking cannot thrive.
