HOPE STARTS HERE STORIES
Binta
Binta had been trafficked all the way from Nigeria.
This place wasn't her home, and it wasn't the work she had been promised. A woman had promised her a good life and good work where she would be able to support herself and send money home to her family.
Our partner, named BBC, met Binta in one of the largest prostitution regions of West Africa.
Prostitution was so common here because of the number of foreigners who came through the area. These men often came to the prostitution districts to spend the money they earned from their exports.
BBC’s team felt God calling them to go out on the streets at night.
Binta approached their car, thinking it was a customer, but was full of fear when she saw multiple people in the vehicle. She knew that one man would be willing to pay, but groups of men often were more violent and threatening. They might leave her beaten and without money for her time.
But the team assured her they weren't customers at all, but that God had led them to find her. She almost immediately lowered her guard and gave us her attention. She shared how she had been promised an opportunity to help her family, but that this wasn't the work she wanted.
She didn't even know if her family was getting any of the money she made because she had to give it all to the woman who managed Binta's work.
Binta wanted to know about God and why he would send men to her if they weren't here to be "serviced." So they told her about who God was and His love for her. Filled with joy, she told BBC’s team she wanted to serve a God like that.
They left her with great joy in their hearts.
A few days later, over a phone call, she said she wanted to leave prostitution and asked if Project Rescue could help her find a good job that could sustain her life as well as her family back home in Nigeria.
Binta was accepted into our partner’s program. Since then, we have only seen healing and transformation. She completed a vocational training course and even began to lead the other women in the program in jewelry-making classes.
In 2025, when the home in West Africa was complete, Binta became our first resident. She has her own room and a safe space for her healing to continue.
Pray for Binta as God continues to work in her life.
