Through red-light district outreach, our partner in Belgium is creating connections with women and men who are often marginalized and overlooked. These initiatives offers them a chance to explore spiritual guidance and the possibilities of life outside of the district. Our partner helps those who are in the red-light district envision a hopeful future, encouraging them to take steps toward healing and transformation.
Everyone participating in the program has the chance to engage in an income generation project, which takes the form of a coffee shop. This initiative not only provides employment but also includes training, enabling them to gain valuable skills and experience. Through this stable and safe line of work, they can build a foundation for their future, fostering growth and independence in a nurturing environment.
Ministry in Belgium: Our initiatives
Vocational Training
This training helps equip survivors for the workforce and lowers the risk of re-exploitation. Here, they begin their steps to live independently through dignified work.
red-light district outreach
Relational outreach is designed to make connections, build trust, and invite men and women living in exploitation to our partner's center. This consistent presence helps individuals know they are seen, valued, and not alone.
sustainability
The Oasis Cafe serves as a sustainability project that can financially support its operational costs, so outreach can continue. These efforts help support long-term stability and empower the local team and survivors.
A PLACE OF HOPE IN BELGIUM
Since 2018, Project Rescue’s partners in Belgium have reached more than 2,200 individuals through outreach, vocational training, and a supportive community of healing. At the heart of this outreach is a newly renovated café—now equipped with modern bathrooms, a remodeled kitchen, outdoor seating, and professional-grade café equipment.
In a culture where asking for help can feel like weakness, this café offers something powerful: a warm, welcoming space where survivors can begin again. It's a place where they build relationships, discover purpose, and take their first steps toward freedom. As the café enters its busiest season, we are committed to completing remaining renovations and ensuring the sustainability of this life-changing work.
Meet mary
Mary grew up in church. She knew the words of the Gospel, but time, pain, and poverty had led her into a very different life. For years, she worked in Belgium’s red-light district, convinced she had no other option. “It’s just for the money,” she used to say. But beneath that survival mindset, God was already at work.
One evening in a small group gathering at the ministry center, Mary sat quietly as another survivor—James—shared his story. He spoke of walking away from prostitution after hitting rock bottom, of discovering God’s love not just as an idea, but as a reality.
She was uncomfortable, yes—but it was the discomfort of wonder. Of hope. Of questions she didn’t know she was allowed to ask. After the meeting, our partners noticed James and Mary praying together. It wasn’t a dramatic turning point, but a holy moment—seeds planted in a heart ready to awaken.
A few weeks later, Mary made her decision. She left prostitution behind. And in the weeks that followed, she began to see just how much that life had been harming her—emotionally, spiritually, and physically. “I didn’t realize how deeply it was affecting me until I walked away,” she shared.
Mary soon returned to the group—not just as a listener, but as a voice of truth. When she shared her testimony, others leaned in. Our partners said, “you could see revelation dawning across the room—others waking up to the reality that this isn’t just about money. It’s a battle for their soul.”
Today, Mary is our first volunteer in the café, joyfully serving others who walk through the same doors where she once sat searching. God is restoring her life—and using her to stir the hearts of many.
