HOPE STARTS HERE STORIES
Amala
From the streets to a song of hope
Amala was only a toddler when she was found on the streets of a bustling city in Southern Asia—alone, barefoot, and vulnerable. No one knew where she came from, and despite efforts to find her family, no one ever came forward. But God saw her, and so did our local partner.
Moved with compassion, they brought Amala to safety, obtained her documentation, and welcomed her into their safe home. There, surrounded by care and consistency, she blossomed. She enrolled in school, received trauma-informed care, and found security in a loving community that called her family.
It was at a neighboring church that Amala discovered her voice. She began to sing—softly at first—then with boldness and joy. She learned piano and began leading her new brothers and sisters in worship, her voice echoing with gratitude and strength.
Amala later became a recipient of the Project Rescue Higher Education Scholarship. With that support, she pursued a degree in music, becoming one of the first in her safe home to graduate from college. Today, Amala leads worship with the same passion that once rose from the walls of that little church. Her songs now inspire others with the same hope she found as a little girl—hope that she was not forgotten.
Though her beginning was filled with unknowns, her future is filled with purpose. Amala’s story is not one of abandonment but of redemption—a melody of rescue, restoration, and the beautiful life that followed.
