PRAYER ALERT:

PLEASE PRAY FOR HAITI

The situation in Haiti is dire. Tens of thousands are dead as a result of the massive earthquake earlier this week, and many more are missing or injured.   Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere, and millions of Haitians already living in poverty are now faced with the incredible additional hardships presented by this disaster.

Haiti's women and children are especially vulnerable during this moment of crisis. In the chaos caused by catastrophic devastation, pimps and human traffickers take advantage of the weakest members of society.  They target children who have been orphaned or separated from their parents, and women are also in much greater danger of being exploited.

Please keep the people of Haiti in your prayers.

Pray that God will grant wisdom and endurance to relief workers as they provide assistance to the victims of this tragedy.

Pray for those who have lost loved ones, or whose loved ones are still missing.

And please remember to pray that God will protect the vulnerable women and children of Haiti from harm, and prevent them from being abducted and exploited as a result of this catastrophe.

Pound Out the Darkness

An Oregon Church gets creative about supporting Project Rescue!

“When you get together with other people you can actually do something to change a life.”  Mrs. Diane Jendresen

There are many ways to support the ministry of Project Rescue.  Some are called to pray, others to give, others to raise awareness.  One pastor found a creative way to do all three!

Pastor John Jendresen is the Senior Pastor at New Hope Community Church in Stayton, Oregon, a small congregation of about 65-80 people.  A few years ago, inspired by his wife, he combined his New Year’s resolution to get fit with a church wide fundraiser for Project Rescue.  They developed a simple sponsor form, and asked family and friends to sponsor him per pound lost.  Pastor Jendresen presented this fundraiser to his congregation, calling it “Pound out the Darkness.” In doing so, he also raised awareness about the issue of sexual slavery and the ministry of Project Rescue.

His idea was so popular that other members of the church joined in. Pastor Jendresen and participating members of his congregation raised over $1000 for Project Rescue (two years in a row!) using this creative fundraiser.

This event became an avenue for blessing.  Pastor Jendresen and his congregation were enthusiastic about engaging in a worthy cause, and they felt the excitement of knowing that they were making a difference.   They were inspired, engaged, and energetic, feeling a part of something bigger than themselves and enjoying the pleasure of a few pounds lost in the process!  In turn, the prayer support and generous financial gift they gave helped bring hope to women and children victimized by sexual slavery.

Thank you, Pastor Jendresen and New Hope Community for your incredible creativity, prayers and support!  We appreciate you!
